On Thursday night Daisuke stumbled home, drunk, teling me about his faaaaabulous new friends, then passed out under the coffee table and ran to the toilet to throw up. Oh and immediately afterwards he announced that we were going to the Linkin Park concert on Saturday.
The band had checked into Dai’s hotel and given away tickets to the staff. So, excited, we made our way out to Saitama, to the Saitama Super Arena, for the big show. Something different! When we arrived we had another surprise in store. The support act was J-rock poseurs “Dir En Grey” (pictured). Sweet! We rushed in.
Inside, well-behaved fans milled through the spacious complex, puffing away in lethal smoking areas, eating disgustingly undercooked sausages on sticks and chatting excitedly about the show (often in Portuguese – the Brazilians were out in force). We found our seats and went in…
The arena was vast, Dir En grey were on, and they were terrrrrible. We immediately decided to go and get more raw sausages on sticks. Everytime someone opened the door we would hear a tortured wail from the stafe withinm and knew we had made the right choice.
We came back for Linkin Park themwelves who were considerably more exciting- but still, the salarymen next to us slept through (WTF?!?!). And after a few songs, we crept out too….
Maybe it was the “stadium rock, Hello Cleveland” feel. Or maybe its just wasn’t my scene. Or maybe Im getting old. But I’d rather just go to Starbucks. So we did.
