Melbourne has a brand new landmark. The 16 metre golden statue of the “Heavenly Queen” is part of a new Buddhist temple complex in the city’s inner West. Melbourne seems to be experiencing a Buddhist temple-building boom. My mum was expecting a Thai boarder who was coming to town for the inauguration of another temple this month, but with the events in Bangkok – the occupation of Suvhanabhumi airport by anti-government protestors – she couldn’t get out and had to cancel. What a shame.
