Super Abravana!

19 03 2012

“Abravana” is the name of a mysterious quasi-bullshit (but undoubtedly fun) Brazilian modern art “movement”. I have reported on it before. It was born of Sao Paulo, the ultimate hybrid city, led by artist Rick Castro of the “collective” Assume Vivid Astro Focus, modelesque hipster pop star Cibelle and a mysterious chick called Renata (see her lip syncing to 2Unlimited “There is no Limit” here).

Its mission statement might be vague (something about celebrating the joy in everyday life) but its aesthetic is immediately recognisable, and enjoyable: rave colours, home-made clothes, neon lights, camplyy  psychedelic tropicalist pop art.

If I were an eccentric billionaire I would be opening an Abravana Hotel with a surrealist kitsch jungle/disco lobby as we speak.
