Midautumn sadness

7 10 2012

Last week saw a four day weekend in honour of the traditional Midautumn festival (which had seen the city blanketed with billboards for mooncakes and paper lanterns) and the October 1st national holiday of China.

Fireworks were set off over the harbour and this giant flashing “lantern” was set up in Causeway Bay’s Vicoria Park. Unfortunately the celebrations were marred by tragedy; two ferries collided during the firework celebrations and 38 people drowned, Hong Kong’s worst maritime tragedy in almost fifty years.

Oh I walk past there every day after work! Such a shame we missed each other but I guess it was a sudden trip… I really recommend Taiwan! You should give it a try. When will you be in bkk?
