Thai hipsters: mamafakas and WTF

15 02 2013

While watching the video above for artist Mamafaka, a participant in next week’s Bukruk Bangkok Street Art festival, I stumbled on another link – below – for a show by top Thai commercial photographer Kachain Wongleawthong called “Flamingo”. Although the exhibition is well over now, the video gives a good insight into the inner circles of Thai hipsterdom¬† or to use the native term, “dek naew” (for more on this, see my book Bangkok Off the Grid).

I was actually in Bangkok while the Flamingo party was on and scored an invite (it was held at Thonglor fave WTF) but I had another engagement. Luckily, this also turned out to be a really great night or I’d be feeling bad watching this video now – spot the Thai celebs in attendance.
