Chinese democracy

June 4th saw Hong Kong democracy activists pour in their thousands into Causeway Bay’s Victoria Park. They do every year on the anniversary of the massacre at Tianenmen Square. Even rain did not deter the protestors this year, although I did not attend the candle-lit vigil as I had the year before, just pushing through the crowds on the way home from work.

Protestors also made their point in other ways too – like this already-iconic image of the events in Beijing in 1989 with rubber ducks (a reference of course to Hong Kong’s most recent attraction) replacing tanks.

Chinese government censors responded by immediately disabling internet engine searches for “yellow rubber ducks”.
