Ratchathewi, the Skytrain stop after Siam Square (not to be confused with Rajadamri), is not a very prominent neighbourhood. It is home however to the faded Hotel Asia (known for its annual conference of Thai Elvis impersonators), a tacky and largely empty shopping arcade built like a medieval castle with a rock bar, the city’s biggest party costume store and an interesting and rather tucked-away little district which I had previously explored here.
This network of old Thai shophouses and the community it houses are always interesting to wander through, but now there is another reason to visit: the area was one of the hubs for the Bukruk street art festival.
A vacant lot facing the skytrain just before Ratchathewi is now decorated with these amazing murals, facing a lot where boys play takraw at sundown and stray dogs laze on mounds of weeds and rubbish.

Cool!
