Some snapshots of the week that was:
Walking through the new canal by the park to work, hearing birds sing and watching minnow-like fish dart through the (surprisingly) clear waters. I realise how calming this contact with nature is, however slight it may be. I certainly enjoy it more than my old walk to work along a rundown light industrial street, a pair of construction sites and a bus demo.
Dinner at the Foreign Correspondents Club – no cash and no phones allowed, a weird, insular little world of world clocks mounted on the walls and older men typing away on keyboards and editing footage on their Macs.
Iconic Thai bar Iron Fairies just opened in Hong Kong, the latest in a slew of familiar Bangkok names spreading to Hong Kong ( after J. Borowski, Mahanakorn Soul Food, Issaya and Ophelia, designed by Ashley Sutton.) With fellow Indonesian imports Ku De Ta (renamed for legal reasons) and Potato Head, it is interesting to see Southeast Asian brands hitting big and starting to flex their international muscle.
