The Pak Tai temple, tucked away at the back of Wanchai, is probably Hong Kong’s prettiest temple. The building, dating from the 1860s, stands in a grove of huge banyan trees, under the shadows of skyscrapers and the looming slopes of the Peak, and houses a shrine to the deity known as “The Supreme Emperor of the Dark Heaven”, represented by a Ming dynasty four hundred year old bronze statue.
