Scenes from a weekend

6 05 2017
  • Browsing through the Kennedy Town wet market, my boyfriend pointing out bra-shaped pieces of dried meat that I had always assumed were some kind of marine bivalve (they are ducks’ kidneys), “floor mouse drill” for eczema, gossamer-like sponges of white fungus and mysterious “black tomatoes”. Just then a filthy oily-winged pigeon fluttered in the rafters and a stall-holder looked up to me to point and say “Good….Good dinner!”
  • Vegetarian buffet for 88 dollars to mark Buddha’s birthday in an Aberdeen basement..
  • A humid nighttime jog past the Aberdeen canal, where streaks of coloured light drip down the LED sides of a new office block, into the dark and winding little streets of the village crouching under Shouson Hill by the Aberdeen Tunnel, and finally along beautiful Deep Water bay, where waves crash against the rocks and frogs hoot in the tropical undergrowth. Why I haven’t done this before?
